Part 1: How Assertive Are You?

Do you often end up doing things that you do not want to do? Is it very difficult for you to express your opinion if others disagree? As a teenager you may also be facing a lot of pressure from your peers to ‘conform’. Many a times you may tend to “go along” not because you want to but because you do not know how to respond to these ‘pressure’ situations. You may be worried of losing your friends, appearing ‘un-cool’ or sometimes even fearing that you may be left out of the group. Learning to be assertive is a skill that is going to be very useful to you not only in these formative years of your life, but also when you grow up and enter the world of work as a professional. This is the first part of a 3-part series on assertiveness, wherein you can find out the interpersonal situations in which you find it easy to assert yourself and identify those situations in which it is difficult for you to do so.
